Green – Notorious for marrying eloping couples in 18th & 19th
century UK |

Graitney,
more familiarly known as Gretna, was the first village in Scotland on
the main post road from London. The blacksmith's shop was ideally located
as one of the first buildings that an eloping couple came to. All that
was required for a marriage in Scotland to be legal was a declaration
in front of witnesses. |

Hadrians
Wall |
|
Hadrian was Emperor of the Roman Empire from 117
AD to 138 AD. He was concerned to consolidate his boundaries. In 122 AD
he instructed the governor, Aulus Platorius Nepos, to build a wall from
the Solway Firth in the West and the River Tyne in the east. This was
to shield the British Roman province from the wild northern barbarians. |

Lanercost
Priory |

Lynda
could never resist stopping at ancient Churches so we stopped at Lanercost
Priory on the return joutney from Birdoswald. The priory is situated in the village of Lanercost, Cumbria, England 5 miles from Birdoswald Roman Fort. Link Here are some of the Photos she took of the Priory |
